The ÇE-KA Project, which is under construction in the Trakya region, is the fourth largest railway project funded by the EU in Republic of Türkiye. With this project, carried out within the scope of the Sectoral Operational Program for Transport (SOPT) of the T.R. Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MoTI), high standard railway connections with European countries will be provided and Türkiye's transportation infrastructure will be developed. The project with a record budget, co-financed by Türkiye and the European Union, is aimed to be completed in 2023.
The Biggest Investment Project of EU and Türkiye Cooperation
Implemented with the aim to provide a secure, high quality, and operative railway transport infrastructure, the ÇE-KA Project has a total budget of €553 Million. The amount of funding supplied by EU to ÇE-KA, which has been the which is the largest infrastructure project carried out within the framework of Türkiye-European Union financial cooperation, is € 275 Million.
Two Projects with International Awards
Halkalı-Kapıkule Railway Project was found worthy of the Inspiration Project of the Year Award for 2019 in the field of "Finance and Funding" at the Inaugural Eurasia Strategic Infrastructure Leadership Forum; The Supervision of the Çerkezköy – Kapıkule Section Construction of the project was awarded the "2021 FIDIC Project of the Year" award by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC).
Environmentally Friendly Rails that Connect Asia to Europe
ÇE-KA project covers the 153 km section of the railway line starting from İstanbul Halkalı to Edirne Kapıkule. The construction of the Çerkezköy-Kapıkule section is financed by a joint budget between Republic of Türkiye and the European Union. When ÇE-KA is completed and combined with the Halkalı-Çerkezköy line, it will connect Asia to Türkiye and Türkiye to Europe with its route extending to the Bulgarian border.
