Within the scope of SUMP Izmir Project, a three-day training on “Transport Resilience” was organized by Assoc. Prof. Meltem Şenol Balaban and Prof. Ela Babalık, with the participation of experts from relevant departments of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and district municipalities.
The training covered key resilience concepts, risk assessment methods, and planning approaches to enhance the earthquake and climate resilience of transport infrastructures. Participants explored engineering and nature-based solutions, soft measures, and emergency and disaster management strategies, with global and local best practice examples. Interactive sessions and a hands-on planning exercise focused on integrating resilience into Izmir’s transport system.
