Our 5th In-Person Training Took Place in Ankara on November 19–20
The 5th SUMP Türkiye Physical Training, which comprehensively addressed Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning and Active Mobility, took place with the participation of municipalities and experts from across Türkiye. Over the two-day event, valuable insights were shared on urban transportation, environmentally friendly mobility solutions, and active transportation methods that promote public health. Ideas were exchanged on how sustainable transportation systems can be utilized more effectively and the necessary steps to make cities more accessible, safe, and environmentally friendly. Here are some key takeaways from the training:
✅ On the first day, the focus was on walkable cities and urban network design, providing participants with a comprehensive perspective on how transportation systems in cities can be made more sustainable and suitable for active mobility. During the training, walking strategies were discussed through examples of urban transformation processes and active mobility. Participants engaged in practical exercises to explore how these concepts can be implemented in practice. In this context, they exchanged ideas on the steps that need to be taken to make cities more accessible and environmentally friendly, focusing on elements such as walkable paths, bike-friendly infrastructure, and the integration of public transport.
✅ On the second day, the focus shifted to cycling, with successful examples from around the world presented to participants. These examples highlighted how elements such as walking, cycling, and the integration of public transport can be effectively incorporated into planning processes. Participants were informed on how active mobility solutions can be used effectively to create more sustainable and healthier living spaces in cities.
